Thanks to great information provided on this site, tomorrow I'm going to a self service junk yard to get a switch from a Lincoln LS, and see if it stops the phantom wiper issue I'm having with my 02 Bird. Classic Industries offers a wide selection of Electrical Switches for your 1963 Ford Thunderbird. It's a pull a part type place, so even it it doesn't fix the problem, all I'm out is a little time and probably $10. It was a hassle to get it out of the car, but even a bigger hassle waiting 3 weeks to get it back, and still have the same problem! A local junk yard near me has an 02 Lincoln LS, which according to my mechanic, and his research, use the same switch. On a Facebook TBird group I follow, where I also posted the problem, several people replied that the first sign they experienced with a failing FEM was the phantom wiper issue, and that more issues followed shortly after. Air conditioning, power seats, power windows, 390 cid V-8 engine rebui. I have rebuilt my wiper motor per the very helpful instructions I got from this site. The original switch had the die cast body of the switch crimped over to hold the electrical switch in place. Though there are a few partial diagrams that floating around, I could not find one comprehensive diagram of all of the lines, so I created my own. On my car there was no electrical switch at the back of the switch to activate the washers. The Ford shop manual does not have any diagrams for the vacuum line routing in our cars. Chances are someone parting out a '63 will have everything you need for the wiper motor/fittings, PS pump and brackets (you need to tell us if the car has A/C or not, as the original pumps differ in terms of reservoir on the inner fender (w/ A/C) or not (non-A/C has reservoir on top of pump). I dont know if a 61 or 62 are the same, my car is a 63 and the wiper switch pulls out. If you're using a '65-newer Ford pump with the fluid cannister surrounding the back side of the pump you should be able to run a hose for the return line from the hard line that's bolted to the side of the inner structure to the return nipple on the reservoir if it has one. ![]() The item pictured is the exact item for sale.
